“’That was the last straw, you didn’t notice anything.’ The note she left me started like that. She just walked out on me and the kids. Then this next bit, ‘I need to find myself.’ What does the woman mean?” “Well,” I took a gulp of my beer to stall for time. I needed to find a way, a diplomatic way to express my version of how her statement should be interpreted. “It means uhm, when she arrives at her destination…when she is in the place where she is finally content she has found herself…you won’t be there.”
